Primal, Gross-Motor Combatives+

 Basic Primal Gross Motor Ballistics & Improvisation is a 3-part series of 4-hour courses taught by Coach Ahanu based on experience in real-world defense, and the research and core tenants of Blauer Tactical's SPEAR System, Lee Morrison's Urban Combatives, Scott Babb's Libre Knife Fighting, and Ed Calderon's counter-custody and weaponology. 


Each course builds on the previous one, ramping up in dynamics (positioning, number of adversaries), stress (escape and evasion for time, threat neutralization for time), personal toolkit development, and live scenario training at your meaningful location (home, workplace, etc)  and debrief.


Prerequisite for this course is the SPEAR Be Your Own Bodyguard course. 


Bridging to the next phase of a violent encounter, here students will reframe their perspectives on the primal, gross-motor, and reflexive movements they have done 10s of thousands of times, now applied in counter-violence against a physical attack. Students get the chance to do partner work, and to use force techniques against the instructor donning specially designed protective gear. 


Primal movements, including pushing, pulling, slapping, hammering, covering, and deflecting, are ingrained patterns in all fully abled humans WITHOUT specialized 'training'.  Gross motor movements involve the coordination and control of large muscle groups, essential for activities like walking, running, jumping.  climbing, throwing, and catching. The definition of ballistic includes: 1.  of or relating to the science of the motion of projectiles in flight; and 2. physics, of an object in motion.


Primal, Gross-Motor Combatives calls upon your onboard options palette that can be purposed to deliver space generating, destructive force on-demand, in the immediate pursuit of safety.


The definition of improvisation includes: 1.  to make, invent, or arrange offhand; and 2.  to make or fabricate out of what is conveniently on hand.


Can you improvise a force multiplier with a stick, stone, pen, table, bottle, door, hat, bag, etc? Of course!

You can do far more than you think, depending upon how your perspective can be augmented! 


Come away from this course with:

  • a roadmap for attribute develop to further enhance you flinch conversion and explosiveness
  • the ability to rapidly deliver counter-acting strikes against an unarmed assailant
  • a confidence and understanding that you have 10s of thousands of reps and sets using the very primal and gross motor movements you need to get to safety when it counts
  • the realization that the environment and everyday items can be used to dramatic effect beyond their purpose
  • the opportunity to deliver force safely upon a live adversary


 

  • Comfortable attire that is consistent with your everyday dress. We train how we live, which may or may not reveal how and why some choices (materials, footwear, fit, etc...) may be better than others. If your days are spent in scrubs come in scrubs, as example. Same for suits, yoga pants, a uniform, or whatever else.
  • Towel if you sweat
  • Water or sport drink and/or energy bar recommended

 


 

Students must be at least 18 years old and have no significant underlying health issues.
